Microsoft ends support for Edge Legacy
Last year in August, Microsoft revealed its plans to discontinue the Legacy Edge browser from March 9, 2021. Finally, Microsft has announced that starting from March 9, 2021, the old Legacy browser will not receive any future security updates and support.
According to Microsoft, this is a part of the transition to the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser which came out a year ago. "The now out-of-support Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop application will be removed and replaced with the new Microsoft Edge when customers apply April’s Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update (or “B” release).", Microsoft said in a blog post.
Users can also download the new Edge browser from the official website. The new Edge browser is significantly better than its predecessor with its Chromium engine resulting in wide user adoption. Also, Microsoft has implemented features such as sleeping tabs, Collections, vertical tabs, kids mode, etc, and retained the useful Web capture tool from the Edge legacy.
