Buy a Tesla with Bitcoin: Elon Musk makes it official

Tesla now accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment for its electric vehicles, according to a tweet by Technoking Elon Musk. "You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin," he said in the tweet.

Last month, the electric-car maker announced the purchase of bitcoin worth $1.5 billion and that it would soon accept it as a form of payment for cars, sending the price of the world's most popular cryptocurrency soaring.

"Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly," he said. He also pointed out that Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin and will not be converted to fiat currency.

Tesla's bitcoin payment method is currently limited to the United States but Musk promises to make it available outside the US, to other regions later in 2021.
