Apple may be working on a new smartwatch with blood sugar and alcohol monitoring features
Apple is reportedly working on a new smartwatch with blood sugar and alcohol monitoring capabilities. An SEC filing by UK-based health tech firm Rockley Photonics has revealed that Apple is working on a deal with the company to work on future products.
Rockley Photonics develops sensors that track blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood alcohol levels using infrared light. So, it wouldn't be a surprise if we see at least one of these features onboard the upcoming watch.
According to the filing, Apple has been one of the two greatest customers of the company for the last two years. Rockley CEO speaks about the company's technology entering consumer products by 2022 which may hint at future Apple products.
There's no guarantee whether the product will make it to market but if it does, it would be a game-changer in the medical world. It would allow tracking blood glucose levels without pricking and drawing blood from the wearer. For further updates, stay tuned.
