I agree with that, and I also like having the resting heart rate monitoring. As I'm trying to improve my fitness, I like seeing my resting heart rate get lower and lower. A smart ring is a wearable electronics device with advanced mobile components that combine features of mobile devices with innovative features useful for mobile or handheld use. Smart rings, which are typically the size of traditional rings or larger, combine the features of a mobile device, such as the ability to make payments and mitigate access control, with popular innovative uses such as gesture control and activity tracking. Smart rings can communicate directly with smartphones or compatible devices (such as personal computers) through a variety of applications and websites. Some smart rings can operate without the need for a mobile phone, such as when interacting with back-end systems on the cloud through or performing standalone functions such as activity tracking.

I don't think I can do without my Apple Watch, thanks to its versatility. Motiv wants you to get a certain amount of exercise each week, and days accumulate progressively to that goal. "Motiv uses a weekly total based on the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendation to have at least 150 active minutes a week," company representative Suzanne Sterns told me via email. "The data suggests if you achieve 150 minutes a week you are at lower risk of chronic disease and cardiovascular episodes, among other health benefits."

Among the additions to the tiny hardware platform are NFC payments, lost phone tracking, and two-factor device authentication through gait monitoring. Whether or not Proxy ultimately has an interest in manufacturing and selling a fitness ring, there’s plenty of underlying technology here that would be of interest to a digital identity company. Motiv Ring is the perfect combination of form, fit, and function. It’s one of the smallest fitness trackers available, but doesn’t sacrifice functionality for size: it tracks activity, sleep, and heart rate - and can add an extra layer of security to your online shopping, personal finance, social media, work, and email accounts with its new, easy-to-use 2-step verification and authentication features. While the app will continue to be available for download (no word on how long it will continue to offer support), the deal marks the end of Motiv’s online sales, while partner retailers will burn through the rest of their stock.

Google Fit integration

I like what the Apple Watch does, but the Motiv approach makes sense too. But for me, Motiv was not about fitness tracking only. It was about sleep tracking, and here is where the device really shines.
