Recently, inside the Amazon India app, Amazon has launched an ad-supported, free video streaming service called MiniTV. Although, its different than the separate Amazon Prime Video service, as MiniTV is contained within Amazon’s traditional shopping app, rather than its own standalone app.

The service is currently available only in India, it catalogs mostly older content which its content partners made originally for YouTube and other media platforms such as beauty and fashion content, tech news, and cooking shows. The MiniTV also feature Amazon’s partners channel which include Indian web content studios Pocket Aces and TVF, and list of well-known Indian comedians.

Some reports claims that the channel should serve as a competitor to one of Amazon’s biggest rivals in India,Flipkart Video, the free streaming service launched in 2019. On the other hand, Amazon competes with Netflix in India by marketing its Prime Video to consumers, which plans to launch more than three dozen new movies and shows in India this year. The free MiniTV will help Amazon test whether streaming content can drive sales on its shopping app.

However, the company is planning to feature new and exclusive videos on the service in the next few months, but didn't provide a timeline.
