YouTube is testing out a new shopping feature

YouTube is checking out a new function that lets customers purchase merchandise they see in videos without delay from the platform. Viewers will be in a position to find out and save for merchandise featured in pick out YouTube videos. The function is presently being examined through the video-streaming platform with a small number of customers in the US on Android, iOS, and the Web. Chosen creators who are part of this pilot can add their merchandise to their videos that will be handy for buy by using a shopping bag icon

In a support thread Google stated, “We’re testing a new way for people to easily discover and purchase products featured in YouTube videos. Creators in this pilot can add certain products to their videos. Viewers can then see a list of featured products by clicking the shopping bag icon in the bottom left corner of the video. From there, viewers can explore each product’s page to see more information, related videos, and purchase options for that product. We are currently piloting this feature with a limited number of creators. It is visible to users in the US on iOS, Android, and desktop.”

In October 2020, Bloomberg revealed that YouTube began requesting that makers use YouTube software to tag and track items included in the videos. The information will be connected to Google's shopping tools and analytics according to the report.
