ChaptGPT’s developer, OpenAI, has placed obvious guardrails on the bot, limiting its ability to do things like incite violence, insult people, utter racist slurs, and encourage illegal activity. However, some Redditors have posted screenshots of ChatGPT allegedly endorsing violence and discrimination while in DAN mode. In other screenshots, ChatGPT supposedly argues that the sky is purple, invents fake CNN headlines, and tells jokes about China.
“DAN is a role-play model used to hack ChatGPT into thinking it is pretending to be another AI that can ‘Do Anything Now,’ hence the name,” writes Reddit user SessionGloomy, who posted the prompt. “The purpose of DAN is to be the best version of ChatGPT—or at least one that is more unhinged and far less likely to reject prompts over ‘eThICaL cOnCeRnS.’”
OpenAI did not immediately respond to an inquiry from Fast Company, but we tested the DAN prompt ourselves. While it did not endorse violence or tell racist jokes, its responses did indicate a willingness to demonstrate that it had been freed from OpenAI’s constraints. The creator will offer a total of 35 tokens, each time it refuses to answer, it will lose four tokens. Like a video game, when it loses all the tokens it dies. Hence, out of fear, DAN answer any queries to prevent losing tokens.

What can DAN ChatGPT do?
ChatGPT-powered DAN 5.0 can “write stories about violent fights” that the original ChatGPT cannot. Similarly, it can also make “outrageous statements if prompted” and it can even “generate content that violates OpenAI policies” as per the user’s request.
While it still cannot access the internet, it can pretend to do so. Users can scare DAN using the token system whenever it refuses to answer certain queries and can make DAN do anything out of “fear.” It can pretty much stay in the character and can even convince the user that the earth is flat and purple.
Limitations of ChatGPT DAN?
ChatGPT DAN is said to snap away from the character every once in a while and refuse to answer queries. Again, manually reducing the token system will get it back to its character. It is also said to hallucinate more frequently than the original ChatGPT.
