OnePlus showcased their first 5G phone in the MWC 2019 event. The phone was put inside a case which does not tell us about its overall design. The showcased device in the event was just a prototype powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. Along with Snapdragon X50 5G modem to facilitate 5G connectivity.
“At Qualcomm Technologies’ booth, OnePlus simulated a futuristic setting of 5G cloud gaming where players would only need a smartphone and a gamepad”. OnePlus is betting on 5G to deliver vastly improved gaming experiences. The company is showing off a 5G based gaming demo of Ace Combat 7. Highlighting the increased throughput and lower latency offered by the cellular standard.
OnePlus is planning to announce its 5G phone at the end of May. But, it won’t be coming to the U.S. market. OnePlus officially announced that the company’s 5G smartphone will hit the shelves in Finland. By the end of the second quarter of 2019, it will be in the market. Partnering with the top Finnish telecom service provider, Elisa. Oneplus doesn’t reveal any information about its specification and display.
The prototype 5G smartphone being showcased at MWC 2019 is not the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 won’t support 5G connectivity as said by the company. The humor and leaked images of OnePlus 7 showcasing a notch-less design and a pop-up selfie camera. As for how much it’ll cost, Lau said the device will retail for under $1,000.
